On Friday, November 21, 2025, we invite you to  join provincial and federal leaders, healthcare administrators, and interprofessional experts in-person and online to improve Pressure Injury (PI) prevention and management across Canada for our second annual Canadian Pressure Injury Summit.

This summit aligns with Worldwide Pressure Injury Prevention Day, which takes place on November 20, 2025, aimed at raising awareness about pressure injury prevention and educating the public. By participating, attendees will contribute to a nationwide effort to improve patient outcomes and shape the future of pressure injury prevention and management.

Attendees will attend presentations & engage in crucial conversations identifying gaps in national PI care, and discussed solutions in alignment with the CPIAP Strategic Plan. Both in-person & online, this event will provide a unique platform to learn, network, and collaborate for impactful change.​

Opening Remarks by:

Sandra Young , PhD RN CAPM CPHQ
Executive Director, Standards and Education

Sandra Young is an innovative health care leader with 35 years of experience in advanced practice nursing, senior leadership, patient safety, quality improvement and project management, research, education, policy and regulation. 

 

As Executive Director, Standards and Education at Health Standards Organization, she drives evidence-informed strategies for standards development, integration, education, and the QMentum program; with a focus on reliable safety practices and integrated people centered care. With a proven track record in strategic leadership, quality improvement, and policy development, she has held senior roles across multiple sectors, elevating healthcare excellence. 

 

Sandra was the first graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program in Western Canada and has practiced in advanced practice nursing in both Canada and the United States in fetal, neonatal and pediatric intensive care and community-based follow-up care for mothers and babies for the first 23 years of her career. 

 

Sandra has served as the Chief Professional Practice Officer for the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, and the Standards and Practice Director for respite, supportive, long-term care, mental health, palliative and hospice care across two provinces with Age Care. 

She holds extensive experience in improving patient flow and patient experience across sites and sectors especially during the pandemic focused on emergency care. Sandra also led the clinical project management of a 189-bed pandemic response unit, constructed and commissioned within 16 weeks.

Call for Abstracts: Share Your Pressure Injury Initiatives at the Canadian Pressure Injury Summit

You are invited to submit an abstract to highlight and showcase your Pressure Injury Initiatives, or your team’s or organization’s initiatives, aligned with the key strategic priorities of the Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel:

  • Pressure Injury Prioritization: Promoting Awareness of Pressure Injuries

  • Pressure Injury Standardization: Implementation of guidelines and supporting pressure injury data collection

  • Advocacy and Policy Change:

    • Engaging policy makers

    • Advocating for persons with lived experience and gaps in optimizing PI prevention and management

  • Knowledge Translation and mobilization:

    • Supporting and promoting pressure injury education among key partners and stakeholders

    • Use of technology to support PI education and delivery

Abstract Details:

Word Limit: Maximum 250 words (excluding references)

 

Template: Include Aim, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Creative submissions such as artwork are welcome; please provide background, aim/purpose, and key messages in relation to pressure injury prevention and management. Do not include author or affiliation details within the abstract body.

 

Attendance: The primary author of accepted abstracts is encouraged to attend the CPIAP Summit to present their work in person or virtually.

If attending virtually, please provide a contact email for questions. Confirmation of participation is required by Friday, November 7, 2025.

 

Most Impactful Abstract Award: All accepted abstracts will be celebrated at the Summit. One abstract will be recognized as the “Most Impactful” based on alignment with CPIAP Strategic Priorities.

Voting will combine 60% input from CPIAP Executive and Board Members and 40% from in-person attendees.

 

Submission Deadline:

Friday, October 17, 2025

 

Review: Abstracts will undergo a blind review by a CPIAP sub-committee. Authors will receive results by Friday, October 31, 2025.

There will be a morning breakfast networking time, as well as three dedicated networking breaks that will give you the opportunity to speak with in-person attendees:

As an attending industry partner, CPIAP will provide you with a booth space at the event with a 6’ table and two chairs and access to an outlet for electricity.

Booths positions are on a first-come, first-serve basis the morning of the event; you can get access to the room as early at 6:30am. To confirm your spot, please complete the booking form on this page.

Your partnership will also include complimentary registration and lunch for your attending reps (up to 2 reps), as well as your logo on the event website, flyer, and other marketing material. CPIAP will also acknowledge you during opening and closing remarks.

The cost to attend as an Industry Partner is $3,000.

We anticipate about 150-200 attendees in-person, and another 150 attendees online.
