Biography
Education and Credentials
Kira Stewart holds a Master of Clinical Sciences in Wound Healing from Western University (2023), where she developed advanced expertise in research methodology and evidence-based practice. She earned her Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) credential in 2018 and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Grant MacEwan University in 2012.
Professional Experience
Currently serving as Instructor at Alberta Health Services (2021-present), Kira co-chairs the Provincial Committee on Wound and Skin Health and is a member of the Provincial Pressure Injury Committee. She leads wound care training programs, conducts comprehensive literature reviews, and designs evidence-based educational interventions across multiple healthcare settings.
From 2017-2021, Kira worked as an RN, NSWOC at Alberta Health Services, providing specialized clinical consultation for complex wound, ostomy, and continence patients while developing research-driven education programs
Current Research and Professional Activities
Kira is actively engaged in multiple high-impact projects, including serving as a consensus panel member for the Pressure Injury Prevention Policy in Canada White Paper—directly aligning with CPIAP's mission. She is currently working on a qualitative research study examining healthcare provider perspectives on specialty wound care access in underserved rural communities.
Contribution to CPIAP
Kira's unique combination of clinical expertise, policy analysis experience, and research methodology skills positions her to make significant contributions to CPIAP's inter-professional mission. Her proven ability to translate complex research into accessible policy recommendations, combined with her experience in cross-sectoral collaboration and stakeholder engagement, directly supports CPIAP's goals of improving lives through research, knowledge translation, policy, and advocacy. Her current involvement in pressure injury prevention policy development and commitment to addressing healthcare disparities in underserved populations aligns perfectly with CPIAP's vision of uniting Canada in pressure injury prevention, management, and policy advancement.
