Biography

With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Candy Gubbels is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in wounds, ostomy, and continence. Currently serving in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority's long-term care homes, she is passionate about improving patient outcomes, particularly in the prevention and management of pressure injuries.

Beginning her career as a care aide in long-term care, she has since held diverse nursing roles, including working as an RN in long-term care, acute medicine, orthopedics and on the burns and plastics unit at Vancouver General Hospital. Her interest in wound care led her to become a Nurse Specialized in Wounds, Ostomy, and Continence at Vancouver General Hospital before advancing into her current role.

Candy holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Aspen University (2025), a Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner stream, from the University of Victoria (2008), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia (2002), Additionally, she earned a certificate in Wounds, Ostomy, and Continence Specialty from Metropolitan State University (2002).

A passionate advocate for evidence-based wound care, she is committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals in long-term care, specifically in pressure injury prevention.
